Most people have experienced a sensation where the heart seems to skip a beat, flutter briefly, or race for no obvious reason. In many cases, this is harmless. But when the heart's rhythm is consistently abnormal, too fast, too slow, or simply irregular, it becomes a clinical condition that requires proper assessment.
Arrhythmia, sometimes called cardiac dysrhythmia, refers to any disturbance in the normal electrical rhythm of the heart.
If you have noticed that your heart skips a beat regularly or have experienced palpitations, dizziness, or unexplained breathlessness, the cardiac team at the Yashoda Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Yashoda Medicity is here to assess what is happening and provide the right arrhythmia treatment in Ghaziabad.
Each heartbeat begins with an electrical signal from the sinus node, a small cluster of cells located in the upper right chamber of the heart. These signals travel through specialised pathways, coordinating the contraction of the atria and ventricles in the correct sequence.
An arrhythmia occurs when this electrical system malfunctions. The electrical signal may fire too quickly, too slowly, irregularly, or originate from an abnormal location within the heart. The result is a heartbeat that falls outside the normal range.
Sinus Arrhythmia: A variation in heart rate that corresponds with the breathing cycle, becoming faster during inhalation and slower during exhalation.
Atrial Fibrillation: Chaotic electrical activity in the atria that produces an irregular heart rhythm.
Atrial Flutter: A rapid but organised atrial rhythm, typically around 300 beats per minute, with the ventricles responding at approximately half that rate.
Supraventricular Tachycardia: A group of arrhythmias originating above the ventricles that cause sudden episodes of rapid heart rate, often starting and stopping abruptly.
Ventricular Arrhythmia: Originates within the ventricles and may produce a rapid rhythm that significantly compromises cardiac output.
Tachycardia and Bradycardia: These represent the two broad categories of abnormal heart rhythm. Tachycardia refers to a heart rate above 100 beats per minute, while bradycardia refers to a heart rate below 60 beats per minute that causes symptoms.
Heart Block: Delayed or interrupted electrical conduction between the atria and ventricles, ranging from first-degree block, which is usually benign, to complete heart block, which often requires pacemaker implantation.
Arrhythmias are broadly classified by their origin, whether they are ventricular or supraventricular, and by their clinical impact.
They may also be classified according to their pattern:
The clinical significance of an arrhythmia depends on the presence or absence of structural heart disease, the degree of haemodynamic compromise it causes, and the associated risk of complications such as stroke or sudden cardiac death.
Common symptoms that may require arrhythmia treatment in Ghaziabad include:
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
These symptoms may indicate a serious heart rhythm disorder that requires urgent evaluation.
Any episode of fainting or near-fainting associated with palpitations requires urgent assessment.
For less acute presentations, a cardiology consultation is appropriate if palpitations are frequent, prolonged, or associated with breathlessness or chest discomfort. A single episode of brief heart racing with immediate spontaneous resolution in an otherwise healthy young person is less likely to require urgent investigation, but should still be assessed if it recurs.
Patients with known structural heart disease, previous heart attack, or heart failure should have any new arrhythmia symptoms evaluated promptly, as ventricular arrhythmia in this group carries a significantly higher risk.
The arrhythmia ECG is the first investigation. A standard 12-lead ECG performed during an arrhythmia episode can establish the diagnosis in many cases.
The sinus arrhythmia ECG shows normal P wave morphology with rate variation related to breathing and can be clearly distinguished from pathological atrial or ventricular rhythms. In ventricular arrhythmia, the ECG typically shows a wide complex tachycardia with abnormal QRS morphology.
When the arrhythmia is intermittent, a 24 to 48-hour Holter monitor records the heart rhythm continuously and captures episodes that may not occur during a standard ECG. For less frequent episodes, longer-term event monitors or implantable loop recorders provide extended rhythm surveillance over weeks or months.
CT imaging using the GE Revolution Frontier provides a detailed assessment of cardiac anatomy, coronary artery disease as an underlying cause, and pulmonary vein anatomy before ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation.
The artificial intelligence-assisted reconstruction produces high-resolution three-dimensional maps of cardiac structures that guide procedural planning as part of comprehensive arrhythmia treatment in Ghaziabad.
Cardiac MRI using the GE 3T MRI Signa Architect identifies structural abnormalities underlying arrhythmia, including cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and areas of fibrosis or scar tissue that form the substrate for ventricular arrhythmia.
Its 128-channel technology provides exceptional tissue characterisation and directly informs decisions regarding ablation, implantable device therapy, and long-term management.
An invasive investigation in which catheters are positioned within the heart to map electrical activity, identify abnormal pathways, and in many cases treat the arrhythmia during the same session through catheter ablation.
Echocardiography assesses underlying structural heart disease, left ventricular function, and valve abnormalities that may be driving or perpetuating the arrhythmia.
Heart arrhythmia medication forms the first line of treatment for many rhythm disorders. Rate control agents, including beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers, reduce the ventricular response in atrial fibrillation.
The choice of heart arrhythmia medication is guided by the type of arrhythmia, the presence of structural heart disease, and individual patient factors.
Radiofrequency energy or cryotherapy is delivered through catheters positioned within the heart to destroy the tissue responsible for generating or sustaining the arrhythmia.
Success rates are high for certain arrhythmia types, and catheter ablation can offer freedom from long-term heart arrhythmia medication in appropriate patients.
For symptomatic bradycardia and heart block, where the heart rate is inadequate to sustain normal function, a pacemaker delivers electrical impulses to maintain a safe heart rate.
As part of arrhythmia treatment in Ghaziabad, modern pacemakers are implanted under local anaesthesia and are designed to provide reliable, long-term rhythm support.
For patients at high risk of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmia, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator continuously monitors heart rhythm and delivers therapy to terminate ventricular fibrillation or sustained ventricular tachycardia.
It is indicated following cardiac arrest due to ventricular arrhythmia, in patients with severely reduced left ventricular function, and in certain inherited arrhythmia syndromes.
For atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, a synchronised electrical shock delivered under brief sedation can restore normal sinus rhythm.
Cardioversion is used both as an acute treatment and as part of a rhythm control strategy in conjunction with heart arrhythmia medication or catheter ablation.
For patients undergoing cardiac surgery for another indication, the Maze procedure creates a pattern of scar tissue in the atria that prevents the chaotic electrical activity responsible for atrial fibrillation.
It is often performed during valve surgery or bypass surgery in selected patients.
Stroke: The most serious complication of atrial fibrillation, resulting from clot formation in the left atrium.
Heart Failure: Sustained tachycardia can lead to tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy and progressive deterioration of ventricular function.
Sudden Cardiac Death: The primary risk of ventricular arrhythmia, particularly in patients with structural heart disease or inherited electrical disorders.
Syncope and Injury: Arrhythmia-related loss of consciousness carries a significant risk of falls and trauma.
Catheter ablation, pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy are all available at Yashoda Medicity, providing the full range of device and ablation-based arrhythmia treatment in Ghaziabad.
The GE 3T MRI Signa Architect identifies structural and fibrotic changes underlying ventricular arrhythmia with exceptional detail, while the GE Revolution Frontier CT provides pulmonary vein and cardiac anatomy mapping to guide ablation planning.
Ventricular arrhythmia presenting as collapse or cardiac arrest is managed immediately, with defibrillation, advanced cardiac life support, and electrophysiology expertise available around the clock.
The choice between heart arrhythmia medication, ablation, and device therapy is based on a structured assessment of arrhythmia type, underlying heart disease, and patient preference, ensuring truly personalised care.
Whether your heart skips a beat occasionally or you have been diagnosed with a heart rhythm disorder, the electrophysiology team at Yashoda Medicity, Ghaziabad is here to provide a clear diagnosis and the right treatment plan.

It was a very good experience, I had a cholecystectomy. All the doctors including surgeon, anesthetic, nursing and housekeeping staff were very supportive. I was admitted for 24 hours. Quick and very fast recovery. Under Dr P.K.Dewan, sir is very humble and nice.
A tremendous job has been done by Dr. Amit Sharma. I met with an accident in which the ACL ligament of my left knee was completely torn. I met Dr. Amit Sharma then he analysed the situation and told us about the procedure and the time period to recover from the injury. He has performed a successful surgery. The good thing is the confidence that Dr. Amit Sharma has on his surgery that he didn’t put braces on the knee while other doctors put the braces on for a month and then started Physiotherapy which will take a longer time period to heal from the injury. Dr. Amit Sharma has started the Physiotherapy from the very next day of the surgery and i was discharged in 2 days, and the Physiotherapy is undergoing at my home. It's the 10th day today and I have gained so much confidence in 10 days that I am recovering very fast and in a few weeks I will be able to walk without any support. Thanks to Dr. Amit Sharma, he is really having magical hands, he is very kind in nature, in my regular visits all of my stress went away after talking to him. Again Thank You so much Doctor
